Some people believe, taking herbal medicines can cure himself of cancer. Though the use of herbal medicines as a substitute drug for cancer until now could not be proven saintifikasi.
"In my opinion, there is no cure cancer successor. To be a drug substitute, (herbal medicine) should be there scientification. As for research on the efficacy of herbal medicines has not been done in Indonesia and scientification test has never been proven," said Prof. Dr. Edi Dharmana , herbal researcher who is also professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University Dipenogoro on the sidelines of the launch of community service in Dharmais Hospital, Jakarta, Monday (19/07/10).

Prof. Edi warned, people should be careful and do not easily believe in what is touted by the ads about the efficacy of herbal medicines as a substitute for synthetic drugs in cancer patients.
According to him, most people believe that herbs can cure cancer because it contains antioxidants and substances that are useful to cure the cells. "Moreover, people today believe in the ancient people who say that herbs such as celery, ginger can cure the disease it is now believed to cure cancer," he added.
Prof. Edi statement echoed by Chairman of the New Testament the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), Prijo Sidipratomo. "People tend to think that herbs can cure cancer because they think conventional medicine is also originally from herbs," he said.
Whereas, in fact herbal medicines on the market only serves as a promotive (to maintain health and fitness), preventive (preventing disease), curative (treatment of companion), and rehabilitation (to be restored).
Prof. Edi further stated, to this perception is often blinded everyone. When taking the herbs then he will get healing from cancer. Circumstances the opposite is true, most herbal medicines currently only be used accompanying its use as a drug combined with synthetic drugs.
"Suppose Phaleria macrocarpo (crown of God) believed their use to treat bone cancer. In fact, only the gods crown consumption combined with conventional medicine to treat cancer," said Prof. Edi.
Prof. Edi also said, herbs are specified in Indonesia into a new herbal medicine around 300 species including 5 species in it phytopharmaca, so the cure of cancer through herbal medicines as a substitute for synthetic drugs still must go through a long stage.
