Complications and side effects are:
1. Cognitive disorder and unease
Cognitive impairment and anxiety is a condition where patients experience a mental indecision and behavioral changes. People with impaired consciousness or restlessness may fall unconscious and then regained consciousness, and experience problems at: attention, memory, thinking, muscle control, response, sleep and wake and emotion.
Unrest can occur
at any time and come up suddenly. These symptoms can come and go in cancer patients, especially patients
with cancer at an advanced stage.
Treatment causes unease (Delirium)
The standard approach to overcome anxiety is to acknowledge and treat the cause. Symptoms can be treated at the same time.
Some treatments include the following:
• Stopping or reducing medications that can lead to unrest.
• Giving fluids into the bloodstream to reduce dehydration.
• Providing drugs to reduce hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood).
• Giving antibiotics for infections.
2. Fever
The main cause of fever in cancer patients is
• Infection, which can result in a common cause of fever in cancer patients and can lead to death.
• The tumor cells, which can produce various substances that can cause fever.
• Graft-versus-host-disease, occurs when the bone marrow that was transplanted or peripheral stem cells attack the tissues in patients.
• Treatments such as chemotherapy drugs, biological response modifiers, and antibiotics such as vancomycin and amphotericin.
General Treatments to Relieve Fever
In line with the treatment for the cause of the fever, give a sense of comfort also can help reduce the discomfort caused by fever, chills and cold sweats. During the period of fever, give plenty of fluids to patients, replacing the excessive clothing or blankets, bathe or wash the patient with warm water can relieve the patient.
As long as the patient feels cold, wet blanket replace with warm, dry blankets, and keep patients from outside air and adjust the room temperature to improve patient comfort.
3. Gastrointestinal Complications
Gastrointestinal complications such as constipation, constipation, bowel disorders, diarrhea, and radiation enteritis is a common problem in cancer patients, caused by the cancer itself or cancer treatment.
a) Constipation
For cancer patients, constipation may be a symptom of cancer, caused by the growth of tumors or cancer treatment. Constipation can also occur as a side effect of cancer treatment or pain due to cancer and may also cause other changes in the body (organ failure, loss of ability to move, and depression).
Treatment for
Constipation
Prevention is the
best cure for constipation by reducing the factors that may be the cause and
restrict the use of laxatives.
b) Impaction (severe constipation)
Patients with impaction may have symptoms similar to patients with constipation, or they may feel back pain or difficulty urinating. Other symptoms that occur are enlarged abdomen which causes difficulty in breathing, rapid heartbeat, dizziness and low blood pressure.
Treatment of Impaction
• Moisturize and soften disposal by enema (insert fluid into the rectum)
• Manually move the dirt from the anus after the rectum to soften
• Use glycerin suppositories
• Giving enemas and laxatives (enter with caution to avoid damage to the intestine)
c) Bowel Disorders
Cancer of the most common cause is a disturbance in intestinal cancer of the colon, stomach and ovaries. Intestinal disorders can be caused by a narrowing of the intestine due to inflammation or damage to the stomach, tumors, scar tissue, hernias, intestinal twist, or pressure on the intestines from the stomach outside the area of the intestine. It can also occur due to factors that interfere with the function of muscles, nerves, and blood flow to the intestines.
d) Diarrhea
Major factors
causing diarrhea among others
• Treatment of cancer (such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, bone marrow transplantation, or surgery)
• Antibiotic therapy can cause inflammation on the inside of the intestine
• Infections that may be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other harmful microorganisms
• Stress and anxiety when diagnosed with cancer and while undergoing treatment

Diarrhea Treatment
Diarrhea can be
cured by identifying and treating the cause of the diarrhea. For example,
diarrhea can be caused by stool impaction (constipation more severe type) and
treatment to prevent constipation / constipation. Your doctor may change the
medication, dietary intake (such as eating small meals with frequent or taboos
against certain foods) and consume more fluids.
